Year In Review : 2014 In Photographs

Once again this was a pretty amazing year photographing shows in Los Angeles for me. All totaled I photographed 199 performances this year (yes, I am a little shocked by that number). I was able to get a few more of my favorites in front of my camera this year that I hadn’t had the opportunity to photograph before. The kid in me was floored standing in front of Dr. John, Crosby, Stills, & Nash, Neil Young, Steve Winwood, Ringo Starr, David Byrne, Robert Plant, Leo Nocentelli, and Carlos Santana this year. Thanks to my father I grew up listening to all of them so it was a special treat to have had these opportunities and being able to talk to him about them the days following the shows.

After a debacle four years ago at the Sunset Strip Music Festival I was shocked that I was not only able to photograph the Smashing Pumpkins this year at the Fonda but that it was such an amazing experience. Other highlights were photographing Jack White for the first time at the Mayan, Jack Johnson at the Greek, Outkast at Staples Center, St. Vincent in back to back nights at the GRAMMY Museum and then the Wiltern, TV on the Radio at the Fonda, Beck in Irvine at the KROQ Weenie Roast, and Alice Cooper and Motley Crue together at the Hollywood Bowl.

I would have to say though that the best part of this year was photographing the first weekend of Jazzfest with my family along for the ride. Being able to expose our daughter to the music and the food of New Orleans will stand out for me for a very long time. Seeing how much she loved it and how much fun that she had was such a tremendous experience for us. I know for certain that she (along with her little sister that is coming in a few weeks) will be with us in the future to share these experiences. I am extremely fortunate to have such a wonderful family that supports me and participates with me in getting out to see these shows. I am a very lucky man!

Another major change this year was getting picked up by Getty Images in March to have them syndicate my work. Working with them this year has been a wonderful experience seeing so many photographs end up in Rolling Stone, Spin, The Wall Street Journal, Yahoo, The Guardian, People, Billboard, and USA Today to name a few. I feel very fortunate to have made this connection.

It seems that every year just gets better and better so without question I am looking forward to what 2015 has in store for me.

Here are a few of my favorites from these shows that I mentioned as well as a few others
